Laila comes home

Really beautiful photos and a touching story from Akanksha Chauhan about her beloved Indy Laila:

'I have always loved street dogs so much that I have friends all around the city. However we never had one as a pet.

Then somehow Laila landed up right outside my apartment two years back.'

'I have never used the word beautiful for a dog, but that's actually a very inadequate description for my girl. She is so sensitive, understanding, and loves playing around.

She has an amazing sense of direction. My housing society authority had some issues with her being around as no outside dogs are allowed, and they dropped her some 17 kilometers from our place. But she found her way back here all by herself.

After that I never let her out of my sight.'

'We don't leash our dogs and this one is a free soul. She's our house pet and goes out only with me, but off-leash. She never leaves my side. In fact if I am out for a walk or go to get the groceries, I have her watching my back all the time.

The moment I step out of the house she wants to know why!'
